Literary Leanings

This is a magazine that I created, edited, and designed for a student-choice project in an upper-level communications class. I decided to create this magazine to hone my skills on Adobe programs such as InDesign and Photoshop, as well as to create a magazine about literature that I would enjoy reading. This project was taxing but very enjoyable. This project also shows my attention to detail in designing each page of this magazine.
I have here some spreads in the magazine that showcase my design skills.

The Men of Cannery Row

This project was very interesting because for a class I was assigned to make a visual interpretation of novels within the canon of literature. I selected Of Mice and Men and Cannery Row by John Steinbeck and combined elements of each to make a series of movie posters that would advertise a film titled The Men of Cannery Row. I used Photoshop and InDesign to alter and combine the images. This project illustrates my design and creative skills, since I invented the tagline, "How Much Would You Sacrifice?" which synthesizes and combines the common themes in both books.
I am not affiliated with these actors. I simply selected my ideal cast in the roles of this hypothetical movie.

Loving Life!

This assignment was the forerunner to the Literary Leanings project. In this assignment, I was the editor-in-chief with three supporting editors. We collaborated to create, design, and edit this magazine for an upper-level English class. As an editorial board, we decided to make a magazine for an audience of women ages twenty-five to thirty-five. I was still relatively inexperienced with InDesign and Photoshop, so this was a great learning opportunity not only to lead a group of talented individuals but also to experiment with the Adobe programs.
I have included here the cover and two pages I designed. I shot the picture of the books and used Photoshop to alter the photograph of the rose.

Sun Valley Retreat Brochure

This was a project for the English department faculty retreat at BYU - Idaho. As an I-Learn faculty assistant, it was sometimes my responsibility to create multimedia projects for the English department. Another faculty assisstant began this project and then I was assigned to it. This was my first InDesign project, so it was a great learning experience. Not only was I able to learn the program itself, but I also gained valuable experience in working with others and under strict guidelines.
